November Blog #1

We're almost finished with the first semester y'all! Keep working hard! Here's the 411 for November's first blog post:

I want to know how well you understand theme, characterization, and "text to world" connections. "Why?" you may ask...here is why: ONLY WHEN YOU UNDERSTAND THEME DO YOU REALLY BEGIN TO ANALYZE/QUESTION THE WORLD AROUND YOU AND BEGIN TO DECONSTRUCT WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A HUMAN BEING! Remember what the quote from my class website says--
"The purpose of a writer is to keep the world from destroying itself" ---Albert Camus

To complete blog #1 for November, please complete the following steps:

1. Read "Lamb to the Slaughter" by Roald Dahl and answer the 10 plot question quiz on the left of the story. Use this link to access the story: http://pagesperso-orange.fr/absolutenglish-972/notes/mysteries/lamb_ce.htm

2. Respond to the following:

a. We often learn about a character through dialogue; however, in Dahl's story, a critical moment of dialogue is omitted. What is missing? Why do you think the author did not include it?

b. Analyze the symbolic nature of the short story's title. What do you think it means?

c. Characterize the protagonist. Identify how this person changes from the beginning to the end.

d. What is a central theme in "Lamb to the Slaughter"? Explain how you know.

e. Connect the theme of this story to a larger, real-world example. How does the concept Dahl writes about play out in reality? Provide SPECIFIC examples!

NOVEMBER BLOG #1 IS DUE ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 10th BY 11:59:59!
